Beardsley Boulder Pile

The BBP is a great local stop off right off the 101 and Cave Creek Rd in North Scottsdale. With 17 routes and about 40 bouldering problems, this makes a great bouldering destination after work.

You can spot the problems from the parking lot, higher up on the hill are the longer routes including the Lower Main Area and Fear Rock. The rock composition is typical of the McDowell mountain region, and the bouldering ranges from V0-V6 and the routes are spaced amongst the larger walls up the mtn.

To Access: Take the 101 to Cave Creek Rd and head North. Turn left on E Rose Garden Ln. Park at the end and the lower boulders will be immediately visible. Walk up the trail to the North to access the trail to the upper walls – Fear Rock and Lower Main Wall are about a 20 minute hike up the hill. Bring crashpads for the lower bouldering, up higher you will want to rope up. The routes higher are trad routes, taking a span of gear from 0′s to 3.

TIP: Marty Karabin has made a detailed area guide for Beardsley Boulders and it includes all lower routes on the boulders but also the location of the routes higher up and the gear routes on the Lower Main Wall.
Pick them up at REI and Tufa Gear Shops here in the valley for a couple bucks.
