Just east of Payson, Arizona lies the wilderness surrounding the Tonto Fish Hatchery. The Christopher Creek confluence cuts a deep, long gorge into the surrounding area and has almost 3 miles of beautiful canyon to explore.
This trip can be done in about 5 hours by most parties and involves two small rappels. We recommend wearing an approach shoe or canyoneering shoe, neoprene socks and a full wetsuit for all but the hottest months. The water in the canyon is extremely cold and will be encountered frequently in the wetter months.

TIP: Exercise caution in the hills surrounding the canyon – this is a wild and remote area. We have found rattlesnakes on a couple occasions and signs of bear were present on the last trip.
